Veneers
Veneer treatment aims to improve the appearance, colour, size & shape of teeth. The shape of the dental veneer is like a thin colored shell that is attached to the front surface of the tooth. They are often made from porcelain or composite material & will be permanently attached to your teeth.
Why You Need Veneers:
- Repairing the shape of broken/cracked teeth
- Covering tooth gap
- Ensuring a uniform tooth color due to teeth discolouration (for example due to fluorosis, staining)
- Repairing minimal tooth defects
Veneer Type:
- Composite Veneer
Advantages:
- Ready in just one appointment
- Cheaper
- Can be repaired if broken
- Minimal tooth structure is removed
Disadvantages:
- More prone to discolouration, needs to be polished more frequently
- Easier to be worn out compared to porcelain veneers
- Needs to be repaired & replaced more often if broken
- Porcelain veneer
Advantages:
- More aesthetic & natural looking
- Not easily discolored like composite veneer
- More durable than composite veneer
Disadvantages:
- More expensive
- Higher risk of causing sensitive teeth
- Difficult to repair if broken
- More tooth structure needs to be removed compared to Composite Veneer Veneer
Procedure:
Composite Veneer (One appointment)
- Clean up the tooth surface
- Identifying shade & choosing the appropriate composite
- Tooth surface preparation including tooth cleaning, caries filling & damage restoration (if any)
- Filling process of the entire tooth surface
Porcelain Veneer (Two appointments)
- Site preparation & mold taking
- Identifying tooth shade
- Preparation of the veneer site
- Taking the tooth mold to be sent to the laboratory to be processed
- Temporary veneer given & issued to the patient
- Issue veneer
- Temporary veneers are removed from the tooth surface
- Placing porcelain veneer cement & attach it to the tooth surface.
