Dental Fillings
Dental fillings are used to restore a tooth cavity by sealing the opening in the tooth through which bacteria can enter. Filling materials such as composite resin will be used in fillings. The filler material chosen is determined by the treatment’s suitability.
Types of Fillings Available:
Composite Resin
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Best for use on front teeth
- Prone to discolouration depending on individual lifestyle such as drinking coffee & tea
Glass Ionomer Cement (GIC)
- Tooth-colored fillings
- Suitable for the back of the teeth that have a deep cavity
- Contains fluoride that can stop the activity of dental caries
- More fragile in the long term (Mostly used as temporary fillings)
Why do you need to do Dental Filling?
- Sensitive sensation especially when drinking hot/ cold water or when eating sweet/ sour food
- A sharp stabbing or throbbing pain in the tooth
- Toothache when biting or chewing food
- Feeling or visibility of holes on the surface of teeth
- Food tends to get stuck in the hole or in between the teeth
- Existing tooth filling is cracked or broken
