What is a Crown?

A dental crown is a type of treatment that will cover the original tooth structure. Crown will be cemented on the surface of the tooth & works to replace the outermost layer of the tooth.

When Do You Need a Crown?

• There is caries or a hole that is too big on the surface of the tooth
• Fillings on the tooth are too often pulled out/ broken
• Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment
• Teeth that are broken due to a fall/ accident that could not be fixed by dental fillings

What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is an alternative to replace missing or extracted teeth. The dental bridge will be connected & supported by the adjacent teeth.

• Wanting a permanent replacement for missing/ extracted teeth
• Restoring your smile
• Restoring the ability to chew properly
• Restoring speech & pronunciation
• Maintaining facial shape (Preventing facial sagging)

• PFM: Cheaper than Zirconia type
• Zirconia: More beautiful & natural looking than PFM

• Tooth position (front/back)
• Tooth structure that will be visible when the patient smiles
• Position of gum tissue & tooth function that requires crown
• The structure of the original tooth that is still there
• The color of the adjacent original tooth
• Cost of dental crown & the patient’s budget

Dental Crown/ Bridge Procedure:

1. Dental examination

• The doctor will examine the tooth that needs a dental crown/ bridge
• This may also involve taking dental X-rays to ensure the overall health status of the teeth
• Mold of the original teeth is taken first

2. Crown site preparation & mold taking

• The doctor will prepare the crown site by removing part of the outer layer of the tooth (crown preparation) to place the crown
• This procedure will be done with local anesthetic so that the patient feels comfortable & pain free
• The doctor will take the tooth mold that has been cut together with the adjacent tooth
• Preparation site of Crown & Dental Bridge will be temporarily covered

3. Issue Crown

• Temporary Dental Crown/ Bridge will be removed
• Actual Zicornia/ PFM Crown or bridge that has been processed will be cemented permanently on the patient’s teeth
